Nick Leon was appointed Director of Design London in October 2007. Design London brings together expertise in design from the Royal College of Art, engineering from the Imperial College London Faculty of Engineering and the business of innovation from Imperial College Business School, to deliver new practices, tools and processes to transform the way businesses and the public sector innovate.
His field of research addresses how information and communication technologies and services are helping cities become hubs of innovation.
Dr. Leon’s recent projects include advising the Barcelona city government on creating an international district for innovation and developing the information and communication technologies strategy for CLM, the consortium responsible for building the venues and infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Previously, Dr. Leon worked for IBM Corporation for more than 30 years. There, he was director of business development for Global Services in Europe, and led IBM’s business in the telecommunications industry, among other positions.
Dr. Leon has a Bachelor of Science with honors in mechanical engineering from Imperial College London, a Master of Arts in design from the Royal College of Art and a PhD on Complex City Systems from Imperial College Business School. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Royal College of Art.
