On Tuesday 19/7/11, I was privileged to attend this workshop, organised by Better Business international (BBi) that I strongly recommend.  Although I am not a foreign manager, as general manager of BcnIn I have a great interest in learning first-hand the impressions, difficulties and barriers that foreign professionals find in working in Spain with Spanish staff.

BBi, Better Business international, is a Swedish company, present in 5 countries and hugely experienced in three areas: language teaching for professionals, intercultural communication and business translation. The workshop was held in the Gild International club house.

I must say I was 100% satisfied and the foreign participants I checked with also succeeded in meeting their main objectives: exploring cultural differences in the professional field between locals and foreigners and learning how to deal with them.

Astrid Moix delivers the workshop in a very smooth way and she leads the audience in a continuous participation so the time passes quickly and concepts settle naturally and effectively.

If you decide to go to future editions of this workshop you will learn:

  • What ‘culture’ means in relations between professionals from different countries
  • How to manage and to go beyond the 5 cultural barriers
  • The onion model of culture
  • What provokes differential behaviour
  • How to manage the cultural conflicts
  • The 5 intercultural collaboration levels
  • The most important Spanish traits
  • The specific Catalan typology
  • Typical Spanish relationships in the workplace
  • Management styles in comparison with other countries
  • About decision-making and negotiation
  • About communication and meetings

So, I’m happy because thanks to this workshop I progressed in learning to improve my professional relationships with foreign people.

I highly recommend that every foreign manager should attend this workshop upon arriving in Spain.
