Gild Open Day 2011
The most surprising thing about Gild International is not that it exists but that it needed to be created. That a city as big, as international and as commerce-driven as Barcelona should lack a members’ club dedicated to business networking seems unbelievable but that was the situation before 2007. It was the equivalent of a major airport lacking a business lounge.
Better late than never, Gild appeared to fill this baffling breach and has gone from strength to strength, becoming an important hub for both Barcelona’s international business community and those wishing to interact with it.
Networking events, seminars and business introduction services have drawn companies and individuals to Gild’s clubhouse on the attractive and secluded Passatge Permanyer in the centre of the city. Next week, the members’ club hopes to attract new start-ups, corporations and other interested parties to its Open Day on April 12th.
The conceptual theme of the open day is “Global, From Barcelona” and various conferences and workshops will be held during the day on related themes.
Contributors and key speakers from leading companies, business schools and think tanks will address the challenges and opportunities of doing global business from the city.
With titles such as ‘Cloud Computing for a Global Company’ and “How to be a Global Entrepreneur without Dying in the Attempt”, the sessions promise to deliver tools and new ideas to local enterprises who have international plans.
Last year’s Open Day attracted more than 180 attendees of fifteen different nationalities and a guest count in excess of 200 is expected this time.
As well as the fixed programme, there will be Open Mic discussions hosted by representatives of the city council, the Ajuntament de Barcelona. These are the perfect opportunity to share opinions and brainstorm challenges with city officials and other entrepreneurs.
The clubhouse has both a garden and a terrace and both will be put into use for informal networking during the lunchtime barbecue (at €15 this is the only part of the day that is not free of charge) and cocktail evening.
To finish the day on a happy note, a raffle will be held with prizes including HTC phones, cava, free advertising and Formula 1 & Moto GP tickets to be given away.
Although the Open Day is free of charge, registration is required both to attend and to take part in specific conferences and workshops where numbers are limited.
